About Stephen Knight
Stephen Knight is a progressive activist, former pastor, videoblogger, ethical marketer, and author based in Asheville, North Carolina. With over three decades of experience in communications, faith-based ministry, and social justice work, Knight has dedicated his life to bridging the gap between faith and activism.
Commissioned in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) for more than a decade, starting in 2010, Knight helped start two churches in the Charlotte area. His ministry has consistently focused on issues of racial equity, LGBTQ+ inclusion, and economic justice. In 2016, Knight gained national attention for his role in the Charlotte Uprising, where he opened his church doors to protesters and spoke out against police violence.
Knight is a co-founder of Transform Network, a national nonprofit organization that equips faith communities to engage in social justice work. He is a sought-after speaker and has lectured at universities and conferences across the country on topics ranging from progressive Christianity to anti-racist organizing.
As a writer, Knight’s work has appeared in various publications including The Huffington Post, Patheos, and the Asheville Citizen-Times. His upcoming memoir, It Was A Book, draws on his firsthand experiences during the Charlotte Uprising to explore the complexities of racial justice movements and police violence in America.
When not engaged in activism or writing, he enjoys spending time with his family and posting videos on TikTok/Instagram.
